The Courtship of Miles Standish

A Community Reading of Longfellow’s Romantic Verse
September 10, 2017 2 PM

What better setting for Henry  Wadsworth Longfellow’s narrative poem than an 18th century hearth in the New England countryside? We invite you to join us for an afternoon of dramatic Victorian poetry.
All attendees will have the opportunity to take part in this cherished story of romantic love.

Longfellow, an Alden descendent, spun the tale from an old family legend of a love triangle in early Plymouth Colony between John Alden, Miles Standish and Priscilla Mullins.  The poem, originally published in 1858 in nine parts, will be abridged for the community reading.
