Events at Winslow House week of August 10th

This week, the Winslow House offers a special  children’s program–Thursday, August 13th at 9:00 am, when astronomer William Luzader offers a program on telescopes and the stars.  It is the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s use of the telescope and children will be able to learn to use the telescope while also viewing a portable planetarium.

On Friday, August 14th at 7:00 pm, author Hobson Woodward will be on hand to discuss his book “A Brave Vessel”, which discusses how shipwrecked passengers marooned on Bermuda survived and inspired William Shakespeare to write his play “The Tempest”. Additionally, there will be a film crew on-site to film the lecture for C-SPAN cable television!

Tickets for these and for all events are online at www.winslowhouse.org.

Winslow House Shipwreck Dinner Follow-Up

We at the Winslow House would like to thank all of those who came to the annual Shipwreck Dinner this past Saturday evening (August 8th.) With nearly 100 reservations, we more than surpassed previous attendance totals.  Family Crest Catering of Hanover was great and author Casey Sherman discussed his best-selling book “The Finest Hours” as well as his first book which covered the Boston Strangler case.  All in all, a truly great evening for the House!
