About the event
Join author Lyle Nyberg as he explores the rich history of the North River in his latest book, On a River: A History of North River Massachusetts.
This small tidal river, flowing into Massachusetts Bay between Boston and Plymouth, has a storied past dating back to pre-colonial times and is now recognized as the first state-designated scenic river. Nyberg shares captivating tales of the river's remarkable inhabitants (people and fish), from shipbuilders and toolmakers to fishermen and notable politicians like John Quincy Adams and Daniel Webster. The North River has withstood state-sanctioned plans to dam the river and develop its salt marshes while continuing to offer insights into our future amidst climate change.
Copies of Mr. Nyberg's book will be available for purchase.
Mr. Nyberg, an independent scholar and historian, has authored five books, delivered numerous historical lectures, and documented more than 50 historic buildings. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston University School of Law, he retired to Scituate, Massachusetts, and is affiliated with the Scituate Historical Society, Massachusetts Historical Society, and the New England Historical Association.
