Three hundred and fifty years ago, English settlers and native peoples across New England were embroiled in one of the most costly and brutal wars in American history. King Phillip's War significantly transformed New England by eliminating the immediate threat of native resistance to English colonial rule, thus ending the relatively peaceful coexistence between early English colonists and native peoples. This presentation will explore the causes behind the native people's resistance to English colonial settlement. It will cover the key events and figures of the conflict, as well as its impact on American identity for future generations. Special attention will be given to the role of Plymouth Colony and its leadership in the conflict.
